New Homes in Summerlin Offer the Most Energy Efficient Homes in the Market

LAS VEGAS – September 2012 - Pulte Homes has purchased additional lots in its successful Terraza Amado community in Summerlin, now offering some of the most energy efficient homes in the greater Las Vegas area.

The homebuilder purchased an additional 56 finished lots in the prestigious Summerlin master planned community from The Howard Hughes Corporation and began sales on the new lots earlier this month.

“This is one of the last opportunities for finished lots in this prestigious area, which has established itself among the top performing projects in the greater Las Vegas area,” said Scott Wright, PulteGroup Division President. “This acquisition is a great stepping stone to growing our presence in Las Vegas, and is especially unique because of the tremendous energy efficient homes being offered at a great value.”

Terraza Amado is the most energy efficient community without solar as standard in the Las Vegas area. The Pulte Homes community is taking part in the NV Energy Advanced Building Techniques (ABT) program, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of home construction in southern Nevada. NV Energy offers technical analysis, design support, training and rebates to homebuilders based on kWh savings the homes provide.

Homes at Terraza Amado by Pulte Homes can be up to 54 percent more energy efficient than a typical new home and up to 84 percent more energy efficient than a typical existing home, Wright said. In conjunction with the ABT program, the community uses the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index, which is recognized by the EPA and U.S. Department of Energy.

A HERS score is reduced by one point for each percent of energy consumption - the lower the score, the more energy efficient the home. The 2,467-square foot Alder floor plan at Terraza Amado has a HERS rating of 46. A typical new home has a HERS score of 100 and a typical resale home has a score of 130.

Because of their low HERS rating, the Pulte homes will save up to 9,000kWh per home per year, said Lynne Martinez, program manager for ConSol, the energy consulting firm that works with NV Energy to administer the ABT program.

Energy efficient features at Terraza Amado by Pulte Homes include: blown-in cellulose insulation made from sustainable materials, low-flow fixtures that reduce water usage, ENERGY STAR® Appliances, low VOC materials throughout (volatile organic compounds), LED and CFL light bulbs, condensing tankless water heater, R-19 insulation, 2 x 6 framing, 16 SEER-rated air conditioning system, energy efficient gas furnace, Low-E dual pane windows, fresh air circulation system and more.

In addition to the environmentally friendly features, the homes offer many distinctive interior and exterior features such as recessed lighting, ceramic tile in key areas, front yard landscaping elegant bathrooms with dual bowl vanities in the master bath, and custom crafted kitchens with Birch recessed panel doors, granite countertops and stainless under mount sink.

The Mesa’s continues to be considered as one of the premier and top performing communities in South Summerlin. This new neighborhood phase will offer floor plans designed for growing families ranging in size from 2,100 to 2,575 square feet with a favorable mix of oversized and cul-de-sac lots.

Wright said the purchase allows PulteGroup to continue with its recent success in Summerlin using the existing sales office and model home pavilion. The purchase price of the transaction was not disclosed.
