Pulte Homes Earns 2009 LEED Award for Homes Outstanding Production Builder

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2009-- Pulte Homes has been selected as the recipient of the 2009 Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Award for Homes Outstanding Production Builder by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The award recognizes builders for outstanding production homes certified in the LEED for Homes program, and also for an ongoing commitment to green homebuilding. Pulte Homes, the nation’s sole multi-brand homebuilding company, was presented the award this week as part of the USGBC’s annual Greenbuild Residential Summit in Phoenix.

The USGBC’s Residential Market Development Team selected Pulte for this year’s Production Builder award because of Pulte’s Las Vegas division’s outstanding achievements – and future commitments – with the Villa Trieste project in Summerlin, Nevada. Villa Trieste is planned to be a community of 185 LEED Platinum-certified single-family homes, placing it firmly among the ranks of the largest LEED for Homes projects to date.

Homes in Villa Trieste feature solar panel roofs, offer a 55 percent improved energy efficiency over the International Energy Conservation Code and decrease indoor water use by 35 percent. Approximately 75 percent of waste from the construction process is diverted from the landfill. Additionally, houses are built under the Environments for Living® Certified Green program.

“We are thrilled to receive this high honor from our industry’s foremost authority on green building,” said Scott Wright , president of Pulte Homes’ Las Vegas division. “Providing energy efficient homes is a win-win opportunity. Homeowners benefit from lower utility bills in addition to having the satisfaction in knowing they are making a positive impact on the environment.”

Nate Kredich , vice president of residential market development for the USGBC commended Pulte’s innovation in building an ecologically sound community. “Pulte’s commitment to LEED Platinum certification for all homes at its Villa Trieste project is a true example of outstanding leadership in sustainable construction that sets a great example for builders and project teams throughout the country,” he said.

LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, carbon dioxide emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Developed by the USGBC, LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.
