Pulte Homes Breaks Ground On New Home For Injured Veteran

PulteGroup’s Built to Honor Program Joins Forces with Local Contractors
To Build and Donate New Mortgage-Free Home Near Houston

HOUSTON, TX, June 16, 2014 – A wounded veteran and his fiancé broke ground today on a new mortgage-free Pulte home that is being built and donated by the builder and local contractors. Joined by members of the Houston Texans cheerleaders, a crowd cheered as Lance Corporal Ceontre Shelton and his fiancé Kyndell saw the site of their future home for the first time.

When the Shelton’s new home is complete this fall, it will mark the first Pulte home in the community of Willow Creek in Brookshire, said Lindy Oliva, division president for the company’s Houston Division.

“This effort would not be possible without the commitment of Pulte’s local suppliers and trade partners who so generously are donating their time and materials for this new mortgage-free home,” Oliva said. “We are grateful for our nation’s service men and women who have given so much to protect and defend our freedom. The best way we can make an impact is by doing what we do best: building homes.”

Shelton, a Purple Heart recipient, sustained multiple injuries including the loss of his right leg while trying to help soldiers under attack in Afghanistan. He is currently attending Universal Technical Institute to master auto repair. He and Kyndell have been working with Pulte in selecting finishes for their new 2,150 square foot home, which will be completed in September.

As part of PulteGroup’s “Built to Honor” program, Pulte will build and donate more than 20 homes across the nation in 2014. Two of these home donations will be in the Houston area alone and are in collaboration with Operation FINALLY HOME, an organization focused on helping veterans and their families transition to the home front by addressing one of their most pressing needs – a home to call their own.

"Thanks to PulteGroup’s “Built to Honor” program, Operation FINALLY HOME is once again able to change the life of a wounded service member and his family. Lance Corporal Shelton will now have a foundation to build the new chapter to his life and recover from the wounds of war thanks to PulteGroup and its amazing partners!
