Future Residents Celebrate Milestone for New 55+ Community
HOUSTON – July 7, 2016 – Construction has begun on a new amenity center at Del Webb® The Woodlands®, less than three months after the much-anticipated active adult community opened to the public. The community’s first homebuyers helped celebrate the groundbreaking of the amenity center this week, a milestone taking place even before the first residents move into their new homes.
“We really look forward to meeting people and doing new things,” says Barbara Lagerstrom, a Houston native, who with her husband Craig will be moving into Del Webb® The Woodlands® later this year. The Langerstroms joined other homebuyers in a ceremonial amenity groundbreaking ceremony earlier this month.
The amenity center will include a 14,617-square-foot indoor recreation facility that will feature an indoor pool and spa, fitness center and exercise studio for classes such as yoga, aerobics and Pilates; men’s and women’s locker rooms; and multi-purpose rooms. The outdoor area will include resort-style lap pool and spa; bocce, pickleball and tennis courts; gathering areas; and more.
A full-time lifestyle director will be based at the amenity center to help plan activities, outings, organize new clubs and more. While the center is not slated to open until mid 2017, community Lifestyle Director Sean Matthews is already working on developing programs and classes tailored for the first homebuyers who will move into the community later this year.
“The new amenity center will be the heart and soul of this community, connecting neighbors through a myriad of different events and activities,” Matthews said, adding that activities can range from life fitness and well-being programs, to outings, organized groups and keynote speakers. “Homebuyers have already been expressing their interest in forming and participating in new community clubs.”
Del Webb® The Woodlands® opened in April, offering boomers the combination of lifestyle and location in Houston’s prestigious north corridor. The community is planned for 550 single family homes on 200 acres with expansive open and natural areas integrated into the community.
