BEAUFORT, S.C., September 10, 2014 — More than 100 people were on hand when PulteGroup made a surprise announcement today to U.S. Army Sgt. Lynn “Allan” Holland and his family that they will soon be the recipients of a new mortgage-free home in the Centex community of Shadow Moss in Beaufort. This home, which will be completed by Thanksgiving, is part of the Company’s Built to Honor program where 20 homes will be built for wounded veterans and their families throughout the country in 2014.
Born and raised in Franklin, Tenn., Sgt. Holland enlisted as a 13 Bravo – a Field Artillery, Cannon Crew Member in the U.S. Army as a 39-year-old. He was involved in combat from 2010-2012 where he served as a gunner during Operation Enduring Freedom. In August 2012, he was injured during a suicide bomber’s attack in Afghanistan where he sustained multiple injuries. Today, he continues to work with therapists, psychologists, and numerous doctors to address his medical issues. Additionally, he works with the USO and Hire Heroes USA on post, helping injured warriors with resume writing and interview practice – all in the means of continuing his service.
“Allan Holland has served our country with pride and we hope this new home will help ease his struggles and provide his family many future happy memories,” said Will Cutler, Coastal Carolinas division president of PulteGroup, which is the parent Company of Centex, Pulte Homes and Del Webb. “We are forever grateful for the countless sacrifices veterans have made and so thankful for the generosity of the many contractors who have supported the effort to put them in a better place.”
Centex and local contractors, vendors and housing partners are donating the land, labor and materials for the new 1,913+ sq. ft. home. This is the second home that the Coastal Carolinas Division has built and donated to a veteran. The first home was delivered to U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Robert Wright in Ladson, S.C.
“Operation FINALLY HOME is truly honored to be working with PulteGroup in changing the lives of the Holland family,” said Rusty Carroll, executive director of Operation FINALLY HOME. “Allan’s commitment to our country and his service-before-self attitude is why we are working so hard with PulteGroup to get these young men and women FINALLY HOME.”
With the surprise announcement made, Centex will work with the family to customize the home and address any unique needs so that they can move into the single-family home just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving. Hollland, his wife, Karen and two sons, Austin and Ryan, applied for the new home through Operation FINALLY HOME, a 501(c)(3) organization that honors wounded, ill and injured veterans and widows of fallen soldiers with new custom-built, mortgage-free homes.
PulteGroup, which builds new homes under its Centex, Pulte Homes and Del Webb brands in South Carolina, is donating the lot and construction of the home and is coordinating the donation of all materials and labor. The three bedroom and two bath home is in a beautiful community, which features five lagoons, three parks and two playgrounds.
