Pulte Homes' Award-Winning Use of Green Technologies Showcased on the Discovery Channel

The Green Room highlights leaders in environmental stewardship
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., Feb 10, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Pulte Homes (NYSE: PHM), the nation's largest builder of Energy Star homes, is being featured in the debut episode of The Green Room, a new program to air on the Discovery Channel that focuses on environmental stewardship. Viewers can watch the episode Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 a.m. in all timezones.

The Pulte segment highlights the homebuilder's Villa Trieste community in Las Vegas and its award-winning efforts to promote energy efficiency and sustainability. Specifically highlighted is the company's smart home technology that enables homeowners to lower their energy consumption and bills.

Pulte Homes was recently selected as the recipient of the U.S. Green Building Council's 2009 Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Award for Homes Outstanding Production Builder. The award recognizes builders for excellence in the LEED for Homes program in addition to an ongoing commitment to green homebuilding.

Many of the Pulte homes currently being built in more than 800 new communities in 29 states include energy-efficient features such as smart thermostats, blown-in insulation, Low-E windows, tight construction, high efficiency toilets and Energy Star appliances. Select Pulte neighborhoods even offer integrated solar roof tiles that convert solar power into energy.

"Some of the technologies we use are obvious, while others quietly contribute behind the scenes, all working together to reduce energy costs," said Walter Cuculic, Director of Sustainability. "A great example is the use of high efficiency toilets, which can save a family of four up to 8,000 gallons of water each year compared to older toilets."

The Green Room is hosted by five-time award winner and former NBC News Correspondent John Holden. He travels the globe to capture stories on green issues, new environmental products, and interview the leaders, companies and individuals who are making a difference in environmental stewardship.
