Injured Veteran Given Keys to New Home

Pulte Homes and local contractors build and donate new home for Purple Heart Recipient in collaboration with Operation FINALLY HOME

LAS VEGAS, NV, January 23, 2014 – The dream of home ownership became a reality today for Army Sgt. Christopher Bales and his sons, as they received the keys to a new home built by Pulte Homes and area contractors in collaboration with Operation FINALLY HOME.

Sgt. Bales was surprised that the new four-bedroom, 2,500-square foot home is fully furnished and includes some special additions for him as well as his sons. Pulte worked with Bales on certain details of the home, but kept surprises for move-in day. The home is in the new Coldwater Crossings Pulte neighborhood in Mountain’s Edge master planned community.

“It is an honor to build and donate a new home that will provide Sgt. Bales and his sons with enjoyment and security for many years to come,” said Scott Wright, president of PulteGroup’s Las Vegas Division, adding that the generosity of 30 different local contractors helped build the home. “So many of our Pulte employees and valued trade contractors went above and beyond to make this a wonderful place to live for the family.”

Governor Brian Sandoval and Congressman Joe Heck of Nevada attended the new home dedication as a surprise to Sgt. Bales.

“The men and women of our military give selflessly each and every day and Sgt. Christopher Bales is no different,” Governor Sandoval said. “On behalf of the great state of Nevada, I thank Pulte Homes and the Las Vegas area contractors who built and donated the home in collaboration with Operation FINALLY HOME, for their dedication to our country’s bravest men and women.”

Bales, 38, joined the Army in 2006, serving first in Iraq and then in Afghanistan. He has received a myriad of medals and commendations including the Purple Heart and two Good Conduct Medals. Bales will live in the home with his 8 and 14-year-old sons.

“PulteGroup’s Built to Honor program and Operation FINALLY HOME are providing me and my family with an incredible opportunity that will allow me to focus on raising my sons,” Bales said.

Special interior changes were made to help ensure the home can best meet Bales’ current and future needs. Custom improvements include: widening of doorways throughout; moving the laundry room to the first level; zero-entries from the doors and garage; and a special walk-in shower.

Other additions made possible by the generosity of Pulte building partners include: surround sound and wireless; a 22-panel solar system to keep electric bills low; landscaped back yard with wheelchair accessible barbeque; and flag holder and night lighting for the flag. Pulte Homes and Las Vegas area contractors built and donated the home in collaboration with Operation FINALLY HOME, an organization focused on helping veterans and their families transition to the home front by addressing one of their most pressing needs – a home to call their own.

“It is moving to see a project like this one come full circle,” said Rusty Carroll, vice president of Operation FINALLY HOME. “This effort led by PulteGroup is an example of a company bringing a community together to honor and show support of one of our nation’s veterans.”
