Centex Breaks Ground On New Home For Wounded Veteran

PulteGroup’s Built to Honor program surprises veteran near Chicago

WOODSTOCK, Ill., Sept. 19, 2014 –U.S. Army Spc. Tim Carner and his family were surprised today with the announcement that they will soon be the recipients of a new mortgage-free home in the Centex community of Sweetwater. This home is part of PulteGroup’s Built to Honor program which donates homes to wounded veterans throughout the country.

“PulteGroup is honored to help put this brave veteran in a new home,” said Curt VanHyfte, president of the Company’s Illinois Division. “Spc. Carner is a testament to courage, tenacity and valor, and we hope that this home can be a bridge to a great future and provide him, his wife and extended family with security and peace of mind.”

Spc. Tim Carner fulfilled his lifelong dream of joining the Army when he enlisted in 2010. He was severely injured after stepping on an IED in December of 2011 while on a dismounted patrol in Afghanistan. Today, he continues to work with occupational and physical therapists, psychologists and numerous doctors to address his medical issues. He has received several commendations, including a Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

“We want to recognize the generosity of all our trade partners who are supporting this effort through their donation of labor and materials. It is only through their support that Built to Honor can assist the men and women who have bravely defended our country,” VanHyfte said.

Centex will work in the coming months with Carner and his wife Brittani to put some custom touches on the approximately 2,000-square-foot home, which will feature additional bedrooms to accommodate his extended family.

The new Centex home will be built in collaboration with Operation FINALLY HOME, a 501(c)(3) organization that honors wounded, ill and injured veterans and widows of fallen soldiers with new custom-built, mortgage-free homes.
